A notorious hit-and-run cyclist incident that changed lives and changed the system launches our new season. You may remember seeing this on the news in 2003. A prominent Adelaide lawyer named Eugene McGee hit and killed cyclist Ian Humphrey. He failed to stop after the collision and more than six hours passed before he turned himself into police. After eight years, two trials and a Royal Commission, the penalty paid by Mr McGee was a $3100 fine and the loss of his driving license for one year.

For the first time, the inside story of this controversial case is told by Ian Humphrey’s widow Di Gilcrist and his daughter, Chloe. Key legal, medical and political figures including the SA Victims of Crime Commissioner, the former SA Attorney General and MP Nick Xenophon also feature. And Eugene McGee gives his first interview since the fatal collision.

Sydney based producer Ben Cheshire, editor Ian Harley and head of research, Mara Blazic, have been working hard putting together this two part program. Thursday the 16th of Feb will be the inaugural Smith Cycles SuperCrit Championship Race. This race is the effective club criterium championship for the Vikings Cycling Club, however it is inclusive of all open age clubs. We welcome members of CCC, ADCC and the newly formed ANUCC to compete for medals and prizes across the grades. In addition to the usual SuperCrit grades, a special junior event will be held, starting at 5:20pm. This is the perfect lead up race to the ACT Championships in the following week. Prizes for the evening are kindly supplied by the team from Smith Cycles.

COST: $5
COURSE: Stromlo Forest Park Criterium circiut in the clockwise direction
GRADES: Juniors u15, plus the normal SuperCrit grade combinations of MF/WC, ME/MD/WB, MC/MB/MA/WA
MEDALS AND PRIZES: 1st - 3rd for all grades provided by Smith Cycles, Fyshwick

SCHEDULE:

• 5:20pm - Juniors 15 and under for 12 min + 1 lap
• 5:40pm - WC/MF for 24 min + 2 laps
• 6:10pm - MD/ME/WB for 49 min + 2 laps
• 7:05pm - MA/MB/MC/WA for 49 min + 2laps
