Thanks guys - another well run race. But could you A-graders stop making it look quite so easy!

Well done Steve and all. Great morning of racing.

That sucks, I was 4 seconds slower this time than previous race and I didn't use aerobars last time!

or tired even :-)

Was the start and turnaround in the same spot as last time? I know in the DBR tour, U19TT's etc the turnaround was half way between the turnoff to the left and the top of the 1st sister. I reckon where it was today was heaps better and safer turn spot - but was it there last time?

The turnaround was pretty much in the same spot (give or take a metre or two). But in saying that - having a time trial that has the three sisters is just plain wrong ;)

There was to be some feedback sort re: turn point for this event at today's. If we move the turn point sooner it makes it a pretty short course but I recognise it's a tough TT course as is. The hills will make us all stronger & in Canberra we simply don't have any flat courses so I figure we just embrace what we've got :)

SueP

yeh - its a good testing course. The hills suck but it'll make any other TT look positively flat (I hope!).

I didn't receive any feedback about the turn at the finish. We stuck with the same course as the first race in the series to ensure riders have a consistent point of reference over the season.

My sentiment is that we could find a course on the north side next summer, where there's flatter terrain, perhaps with a distance of at least 25km.

The balance of our racing is overwhelmingly south side and I for one would like to see some variation to the rule.*

* This comment is not intended to unleash a raging torrent of controversy, btw. I'm just sayin' :)

If anyone has good ideas about northside courses, please let me know. We are always interested in new routes that we can get road approvals for - so put your thinking caps on :)

I wasn't having a go at anyone (it was more a tongue in cheek thing given most people know my relationship with hills :D).

The only flatish bit of road I know of and there is probably no chance you will get road approvals for is the Monaro Highway.

Another one that may be ok is the route for the Sat race at Kambah Pool as it looks fairly flat on the profile - the only thing is that you would have to do a number of laps to get the distance up.

There is a northside course that is fantastic and flat. It is very marshal intensive, but it does come with free marshals a couple of times a year. The only problem is it is run by TACT. The course I am thinking about is the lake ITT leg of the Tris.

I wonder if we could do a deal to run at ITT when they are running a Tri.

Old Fed Hwy but it's NSW - Pete M may be able to give us more info. on whats required to run a race there.

I have been told that it is getting harder to get NSW road approval .The trouble with having the races so far away is getting there ,many of us ride to these events as a warm up .

What about Wallaroo road? It's got a longish hill, but it's very much

And from Highway to Turn around point is ~12.5km

edit: oh, I just noticed that the NSW bit, yeah, most of this route is in NSW

I like SFP - its about as central as your likely to get and not to far to ride to from just about anywhere in Canberra.

Steven

Wallaroo Road looks good, but I'd think about excluding the kinda massive descent/climb towards the end. It's still reasonably close to Canberra, and riders have the choice of Hall or Inner North cafes for afters.

There may be others. I like SFP too, but it's a very rolling course for time trials and it isn't possible to squeeze more than 19km out of Uriarra Road.

I agree Sue and the traffic out there is low and they are use to cycle races happening there.

I think its a good course that really allows people to test themselves. The start-finish and turn was pretty much the same as last time, and it's not the 3 sisters, the meanest steepest sister is excluded from the course.

The old flat course was Parkes Way - Anzac Pde to Glenlock interchange, drop left down around the lake, turn right back onto Parkes Way just before the uni, then out to the Duntroon roundabout and back finishing coming into the carpark at the bottom of Anzac for 20ks, and there'd be a 2 lap option offered as well.
If you've never done it I doubt you ever will as I reckon there'd be zero chance of getting a road approval for that course ever again, or while cars rule anyway.

This years Aust. Duathlon course took a similar route but turned at Kings Ave confoundabout, and all the way to the rise at Glenlock. From what I understand though the road approvals cost TACT big $$. It was pretty cool to have that whole road to ourselves though.

Geez, Duathlons used to have the toughest ITT courses, like SPF out the the top of the 3 sisters twice, or the years before the Cotter-Uriarra loop.

By the sound of it, TOJ would be whinging about the flatness of the course this year.

I think he got done for first and second, so it's likely he was whinging. The leaders were absofarkinglutely flying on the first run and put a fair whack of time into him there.
