Is anyone driving past Aranda that can give me a lift for SFP on Sunday in time to make the Epic say around 5.20? I would prefer not to ride out if possible.

guys if you get this before 2nite can you bring along a pedal spanner for anla - he might be picking one up from me 2nite but in case it all goes pear shaped it'd be good to have a spare.
My sage advice on not riding 200 k's on brand new pedals seems to have worked.

I have a thin spanner that should work. I will put that in my pile before I go to bed.

Take it easy tomorrow ,the heat took its toll on a few of us racing today and its hotter tomorrow ,remember its just a bike fun day don't go out there and destroy yourself.

haha, I destroyed myself today, and I only did 100km. I feel sorry for the poor epic riders.

Real Men stupidly ride races the day before the epic. We finished!
Yes, I'm finished too... and I only did the 165! Ouchies.

I woke up too late for Fitz's Classic, and damned glad of it because the 105km Tharwa ride nearly finished me. Shot out with the lead group until Pearce's sorted the boys from the men (which nominally includes Bossie and Jane). Unfortunately I was one of the boys, but I was able to join a small group of triathletes and made it into Tharwa village pretty swiftly.
Took a too-long break for coffee etc, during which Matt Larkin rolled in. Matt and I teamed up - more like, I was towed by Matt - for the rest of the journey. We worked together to get some good pace across the flats, but all the effort was undone when I had to break off to sort out the excruciating hotspots on my feet.
Matt was the soul of generosity, waiting for me at Mt MacDonald where we feasted on the best watermelon I have ever eaten. But all the food I was mashing down wasn't enough, and I had to stop again after the Three Sisters. This time it was more serious - hypoglycemic shock (if there is such a thing) forced a little lie-down in the shade until a couple of vets stopped, refilled my bidon, spotted me half a meusli bar and made sure I didn't die.
Eventually I was able to get back to my feet, then back in the saddle, then surprised myself by rolling across the finish. And didn't die.
My only question is, how did everyone else who raced yesterday make the longer rides look so easy? Respect.

I did (or survived) the 165km and it really shattered me, had to take a few rests along the way. Did anyone else lose a a stack of weight during the ride? I weighed myself the next morning and I'd lost just over 1.5 kgs.

The "Dwyer Grin"? Someone mentioned that back at SFP ;)

Same weight loss here Mr Savage. Despite consuming ~6 litres on the way. I did the 165 as well.

Did anyone see the bloke doing the 165km on some sort of push scooter thing? I think there is a possibility he may have taken some shortcuts to finish the course... ;)
I am pretty slow, especially up hills, but this guy kept on turning up in front of me, at least 5 times, yet he never actually rode (or is it pushed) past me under his own steam on the road. Each time I passed him he was always sitting on the side of the road next to a green subaru wagon. Not long after passing him the green subura would pass me and amazingly the guy on the scooter thing was back in front of me again.
Very strange, but I suppose it's not a race so what does it matter.:)

I saw that scooter at the start, and thought to myself "He'll never make 165km on a foot-push scooter"

Shridevi that happens to me to, i gain weight after tours i think its something to do with muscle gain .

I saw you carrying Avi for most of the ride. Was he still attached when you weighed yourself? If so, that'd be a few kg's right there!

If he didn't... he came pretty close to... I pulled over for a pee just after the Tidbinbilla Tracking station turn-off and he shouted out for us to wait up for him.. he got a flat on the back tyre (like.. the 6" thing) and needed a tube from a bunch of people waiting in a car a few Ks' up.
Alan was his name, I think..

More glycogen can be stored after a hard workout .Each molecole of glycogen bonds to four molecules of water, so more water is stored. This accounts for a weight gain of as much as 2.5 kilograms the following morning .This weight is temporary.
I saw the scooter guy pass through Tharwa as I was waiting for a lift back to Stromlo. I was thinking at the start it would be inconvenient to have to carry two different size spare tubes.

science win!
Good effort Lee, I like your logic. However, at an average molecular mass of around 400 for proglycogen (the lower mass form of glycogen and thus an underestimate) that would equate to you generating 13.8 kg of the stuff in the days leading up to your race. Well, at least it aint fat!

sooo.... does that mean i will lose wieght?? later?? Lee you've become one of thoes science types
I would have thought that you would have lost too much swaet on the ride to have gained weight Shridevi, although I am happy to be proven incorrect if the appropriate evidence comes forward. I heard there was a Turkish feast after the ride... how much did u eat?
Shridevi

I did eat after the ride- i dont know much, but i dont think i ate 3 kilos i was too busy dying instead.

But not all people sweat a lot ,which is my problem you might think i am lucky but i over heat very quickly .I bet Shridevi doesn't sweat much.

How good did the V-Train look coming down honeysuckle? Did you happen to see Anla's shattered pump lying in the middle of the road? It parted ways with him at about 70km/h for some reason.
