Calling all cyclists,

Some V-Mobile men are growing moustaches this year for Movember. We have decided to put down our razors for one month (November) and help raise awareness and funds for men’s health – specifically prostate cancer and depression in men.

What many people don’t appreciate is that close to 3,000 men die of prostate cancer each year in Australia and one in eight men will experience depression in their lifetime - many of whom don’t seek help. Facts like these have convinced me I should get involved and I am hoping that you will support me.

To sponsor my Mo, you can either:

Click this link http://au.movember.com/mospace/188997/ (http://au.movember.com/donate/your-details/member_id/188997/) and donate online using your credit card or PayPal account
Write a cheque payable to ‘Movember Foundation’, referencing my Registration Number 188997 and mailing it to: Movember Foundation, PO Box 292, Prahran, VIC, 3181

Remember, all donations over $2 are tax deductible.

Movember is now in its sixth year and, to date, has achieved some pretty amazing results by working alongside The Prostate Cancer Foundation (PCFA) and beyondblue: the national depression initiative. Check out further details at: http://au.movemberfoundation.com/research-and-programs.

If you are interested in following the progress of my Mo, click here http://au.movember.com/mospace/188997/. Also, http://au.movember.com (http://au.movember.com/) has heaps of useful information.

Thank you

Ben Long (Bean)

Some V-Mobile men ...

Just to pre-empt Sparkles here. "Isn't that an oxymoron?" Hohohoho. (Neg rep for me.)

Funny that Simon, cos most V-Mobilers would consider it a tautology!

Bean

... yes Simon... even the girls! :-)

I'm doing Movember... with the side-effect that I have to meet my girlfriend's Dad for the first time with a half-arsed handle-bar Mo (which is the only appropriate thing to do for a cyclist, really).

That is commitment to the cause!

Why do I have a photo of you, ben?

Bean

Welcome aboard Bozzie. Sorry the photo is just a filler. We can add a new one when perhaps at the crits on Wednesday or tomorrow morning? In the meantime I've dropped Jamie's forum logo onto our donations page.

My donation only went to Ben. Can that be changed to include the whole team?

Bean
02-11-2009, 01:39 PM
Thanks for that Leigh. There's a linlk to either "Donote to Me" or "Donate to my Team"... so you might have to make another donation! :-)

It's all the same in the end but if the money gets spread over the entire team then we can all get the little bits and pieces they give us for making fiancial milestones. Currently we're on $150!!

Thanks heaps Hoops!

Hi,

I'll have a go and raise some cash for the V-Mo'bile team, my donation page is at http://au.movember.com/mospace/274432/ and I'll have a whip round at my work and see how much I can get for us. :)

Bean

Thanks Graeme. The more the merrier!!

BTW, I don't know why but any 'Team' donations are coming to me, according to my notifications, because I am team captain. I can't seem to set things up to evenly distribute the cash! Can I ask people to share the love a little and shell out to other team members if possible until I get this sorted (if it can be).

Many thanks to all who have donated so far. I will apologize in advance for the insipid looking mo which will appear on my upper lip over the coming weeks. It's mostly down to my irish heritage. Lee currently has dibs on what style I have to grow, cos she's the highest bidder so far! Sue is close behind if Lee wishes to relinquish the task!

Mo Sista wants Mo Bean to grow one that curls at each end.

Bean
02-11-2009, 03:14 PM
I'll see what I can do Lee. That might be quite a task!

BTW. I just checked out the Movember FAQ on donations:

How do I donate to a team?

Click on Donate (http://au.movember.com/donate/)
Click on Team
Search for the team you wish to donate to
Enter your personal and payment information
Your donation will be allocated to the Team Captain

Unfortunately that means the team donations go to me which is a bit stoopid. Last year they were split. So, can I urge people again to please share the love!

Lee. Here's a style guide. Take your pick and I'll give it a go. Unless of course we get another big donation!

yeah I didn't raise so much this year so i've let the team down - i'm blaming the GFC, either that or the fact I didn't let the highest donater choose the moustache style this year.

I'm willing to throw another $20 each for Larkin and G-Sav to keep it for another month

James

1. No- it's wax, not blood, though it does look somewhat deceptive.

2. Vaseline and tyre levers are the best way, but even then I need the biggest helmet i can find.
