Come on, you know you want to try it!
For those interested, CCC hold a beginners session at the track in Narrabundah each Sunday 2-4pm. They have club bikes available for use, all you need it your pedals (they come off easy enough with a 15mm spanner) & some courage!
I will out there on Sunday if anyone is interested in coming out & giving it a go.... Loads of fun & great for road speed too :)
I know a few people have expressed an interest, thus I thought it could be worth getting a group together...easier to be game when others are new!

how much does an entry level track bike cost?
Dang, can't this weekend. Anyone keen for a posse next weekend (8th, I think)?

It's on each weekend & I will probably be there training most Sundays so let me know if interested & I will ensure I am there when you are going.
Entry level track bikes are available for ~$1000 & can often be picked up 2nd hand. I have just donated my 1st track bike (was too big for me) to the club as a spare/loaner...it's a 56 so might be alright for you Bossie.

Very interesting... Where's the track in narrabundah? I can't fork out for a new bike but I'd be very interested to have a try...

Lyndsey and I went along one time to see and it was really good. Very casual, no pressure and very friendly. Highly recommended.
Cool! I'm still formulating next weekend, but I'll be in touch if I'm coming out, V :)
I did a "come and try" two years ago, but was a little underwhelmed. There was a big focus on the juniors and I was sort of left to whizz around the track working things out for myself. That was fine for an hour or so, but there didn't seem to be any further help on offer other than 'coming and trying'. It'd be great to get some pointers!

Defintely keen but interstate this weekend. I attended a come'n'try with the vets a few weeks ago. That was pretty awesome.

For Sale - one 56cm Fuji Track Pro track bike, FSA track cranks (165mm length 144 BCD chainrings), Cinelli bars, dura-ace high flange track hubs laced to light alloy rims, carbon aero seat post, San Marco saddle - as ridden to 3rd place in the NSW Masters points race. All you need is your pedals. $900 ono. Can do a try-buy arrangement if required.
PM me if you are interested.
Track is definitely worth trying. There are some fantastic track races around - like the Wagga Carnival in 3 weeks.

I would like to do track, my issue is finding the time to do it, and finding $1000 for a bike.

Come along to one of the Sunday sessions, borrow one & see if you like it, then you can work out whether you can afford it. If you are quick & it fits you could probably loan the club bike (my old one) for a few months...

Vanessa, sounds like fun, does this cater to all abilities, i.e. aging E Grade novices? And can you use SPD pedals or do I need to shell out for proper cleats and shoes? :)

I've never actually been to the beginners day but am going on Sunday so my kids can try it out & I can get on the track for a bit of training. My understanding is that you put your pedals on - so whatever you have you use. You wouldn't want to be using flat pedals but as they are fixed wheels you want to ensure you foot doesn't come off the pedal.
I know the focus is probably more on jrns (up & coming...) but there's a great group of masters that also do track, though typically we train at different times & the focus is on competition. Definitely worth a try, there is racing each week on Tuesdays but you need to have completed at least 2 Sunday beginners sessions before you are allowed to race - just to ensure safety standards.
