Southern Cross Junior Road Open 18 July 2010

A small contingent of 3 Vikings Juniors and families made the trip this weekend to Waratah Park Sydney to take part in the Southern Cross Junior road Open. Kayla, Kate and Sam. Johannes Beitzel from CCC made the trip north with his family to make 4 ACT riders

In the morning Road Races Kayla won the U11 B grade which was all the girls and several Boys. Kate finished 4th in the U17 Women while Sam 5th in the U17 Men rounding out top 5 finishes for the Vikings. Johannes had a strong race in the U11 A Grade coming in 5th.

In the Afternoon Crits Kayla took out the U11B Grade leading from the first corner. Johannes came in 6th in a 10 up sprint finish in the U11As. Don’t have the results for Kate and Sam but both were primed for the race.

Great day in Sutherland with a temp of 19.5c. Southern Cross Club put on a great event and Juniors should mark it in the calendar for next year. Vikings Cheer Squad was by far the most vocal.

Kate Kayla, Sam and Johannes are all looking forward to the NSW Champs in Port Macquarie mid August. I believe there is a strong group of ACT riders making the trip north

It was a great day's racing and definitely worth making the trip up. Kate rode a very strong second race, fading slightly in the sprint however. I'm unsure of what place she ended up with. My second race went well and I was able to position myself in the bunch a bit better than the first race getting a 2nd in the sprint. I also got a 3rd in the prime which was good. All in all a great day's racing - I would recommend it to any juniors thinking about making the trip next year!
