Time Trial - TT1 - Winter Race Series
Sunday 13th June 2010 - 10am start
This is the same course as for the summer series. We are starting & finishing on Uriarra Road, just up the hill from the SFP entrance. The turn point is still down the second sister - we decided to be consistent & stick with this course. I know its hard but its great training :)
Distance for seniors ~20km. Junior distance will be available if we have starters.
Details:
Racing will commence at 10am on Sunday 13th June 2010.
Registration will open at 9.15am and close at 9.45am.
Entry is $5, juniors $2.
Please bring your permanent ACT race number if you have one.
For safety, riders must have a current Cycling Australia licence. Day and general licences can be bought at the time of registration. To allow time for processing licences, please arrive early.
Scheduled marshals are: Dale Brede & Kylie Bilmann. If you need further information please contact the Race Director: Vanessa Essam at vanessajhamilton@gmail.com or 0430 228 766
Note: If you can marshal this Sunday please let me know as I believe Kylie is going to be away & that leaves us 1 short.

It's always a tough one having a race on the Sunday of a long w/e.

Still waiting to get a volunteer for Sunday....
I'll volunteer for Sunday, but might be looking for favours around 27 June possibly.

Hi there,
Just wondering if there was any chance of not running the TT down into Uriarra on Sunday? The last one of these races I did was deadly going down into a thick fog at speed on a TT bike.
Cheers

Not a great deal of low-level Fog at this time of day?

Not always but there was a fair bit at 10am last Sunday.
As with most all road events, it should be the RD's call on the day, possibly in consultation with riders. The RD can either cancel the even or modify the route accordingly. It's a bit premature to cancel the event several days out on the off chance there may be fog. Personally, I hate ITT's regardless of where there going! :P

Certainly a good idea to reduce the course if the fog is still going to be about at that time.
The Race Secretary (and Race Director this Sun) Vanessa will no doubt see this post but i've flicked her an email also.
I like the idea of a Summer course and Winter course if the fog is an issue as we did get quite a few riders who liked the additional lumps thrown in.
Cheers,
Jamie

It has been discussed, and consensus (from the committee and from riders asked) at the time was to continue it down despite several people's suggestions after the first one from the summer season. I have the feeling that those against the descent are very against while those pro were more of the "meh" strengths of opinion. It's certainly not a case of putting rider safety 'over the idea of - "we're racing a stupid course because that's what we did last time"'.
Maybe as per Faema's suggestion though, it's time to revisit the question with many races experience over the course and the mentioned winter fog/damp. Good timing too as it's a committee meeting tonight!

Mods are not my friends today. To quick must be using warp speed.
I think we can leave that one

Sorry it's taken me a few days to get back to the forum...need a job that allows me to get onto the forum during the work day!
Rider safety is certainly be considered at all races but I would be surprised if fog was a problem after 10am but if it is we may well need to turn the course earlier.
Simon is right, there was much discussion & consideration about the TT course & in the end the decision was made to continue with the same course after considering rider feedback, course length & marshal requirements. It is unfortunate that we can not please everyone.
We always welcome constructive input into race planning & will certainly take on board the suggestions re: alternate courses. I am looking at adding in the Uriarra, maybe alternating between the two course. This will need to be later in the year as road approvals are all sorted through till November & the TAMS person responsible is away till end of August anyway.
Hope to see you all on Sunday.

The last ITT was less dangerous than a crit I'd argue. No falls in all of the ITT's this year from memory. We've had a few dry ones, a wet one, and one with a surprising foggy patch at the top the descent - but the visibility did get better a few hundred metres after the summit.
