Is anyone keen on taking on the Tour de Timor this year? I'd be keen to put a team of 4 together for this.

I heard nothing but good things about last years from all participants!

Looks, and sounds awesome - but somehow I don't think I'm cut out (yet) for such adventures.

Not sure that Michael Carr found it all that awesome.

When is this? Is it road or mountain bike?

Mountain bikes on very some poor roads I gather.

Going to Timor?

MTBA is able to arrange insurance for events outside Australian shores for our adventurous members. The cover includes $5,000,000 medical expense cover plus $50,000 death cover. Most importantly the cover will medi-evacuate seriously injured riders back to Australia if needed!

The insurance is only for the race - all other insurance cover needs to be obtained from also purchasing regular travel insurance from your travel agent. Having this cover means being able to contest events at a 100% level rather than always trying to keep yourself safe.
The small print:
We need a group - and the larger the group the less per member of the group will usually pay - to begin arranging the cover.
Offer to be part of the group expires on August 27th.
Participants in the cover must be full members of MTBA.
Indicative cost is $200 per person based on the minimum number of group participants being achieved
If you are contemplating attending Timor and want the security of medical cover then register your interest by sending an email to MTBA.

I think Dan, Libby and I think Tim and Ches are going. Not sure if they formed a team. The later 2, if I've got my names right have only just purchased bikes and started training.

What other costs are you up for? I know a few people did it last year - there were some monumental climbs. I'd be interested and have the ex-Albonator MTB to race it on.

I'm going again, racing in a female team this time around with Sue Kleven, Clare Aubrey and a girl from Brisbane.

I think Dan is racing with Tim and Ches and another Clare?

Simon, it was fantastic last year, and Dave White is still organising so again should be well run. Costs are $300US to enter, plus flights Canberra - Dili - there were some minimally subsidised Darwin-Dili flights to start with this year, but I'm not sure if they would still be available. Otherwise, costs are pretty minimal - food supplied, camping free. Obviously need some extra racing food whilst there. Officially entries closed yesterday but I suspect they are still taking more.

So this race is in 2 weeks and I'm feeling quite unprepared at the moment. Most of my training involved hours in the gym on the spin bike :(

To the folks out there who did this race last year, how did you find the course and how competitive were the field? Any advice for us doing it this year?
