45 riders turned up in 'fresh' conditions for the last early start of the season. From now on VCC races will start at 10am which hopefully gives the sun, and riders, more time to rise.
In the end all grades did a 1 lap dash. A/B/C were sent off as 1 group due to a low turnout in the higher grades which meant the B & C boys could test themselves against riders they wouldn't normally compete against.
In the end Michael Tolhurst showed his class at the top of the first sister and rode to the line solo in front of a fast finishing chase bunch, with the front runners in C grade showing up the more fancied B grade riders.
MD/WB/ME/WC were combined in a single bunch and unfortunately most of the bunch went down in a crash only a kilometer out from the start line. All competitors showed great sportsmanship in stopping and making sure the fallen riders were okay. Special mention goes to Ingrid Kimber who sacrificed her own race to ride back and alert the marshals of the accident.
We hope that Lisa Keeling is okay after taking the brunt of the crash in only her first race back and Sean Whitfield and David Brudenall who also pulled out after the accident. Thanks go to Ed Rice and Ingrid Kimber for helping Lisa after her fall.
Michael Rice lead the D grade bunch to the line and took the honours with an impressive well timed sprint.
This was the first time I've seen tandems in action and it was great to see 3 of them contesting a fiery sprint with Kerrie Knowler and Brandie O'conner just pipping Paul Kennedy and Elton Ivers for the win.
See below for times & placings. Please let me know where Kano has got it wrong.
Thanks to the 45 Competitors, and 3 Marshals performing essential duties:
