TWO STAGE MINI TOUR
20 March 2010, 9am start
Stromlo Forest Park
Second race of the 2010 road series and POINTS SCORE – a series comprising thirteen rounds with a confirmed prize pool of $3000.
The Canberra Cycling Club is putting on a two stage mini tour. Both stages are on Saturday 20 March. The mini tour is designed to give riders a feel for the upcoming Canberra Tour (CT10). There will also be racing for juniors.
The first stage will be a graded scratch race that takes riders over much of the roads to be used in CT10 while the second stage will be an individual time trial.
Stage 1: the Road Race (starting at 9am). Start will be at Stromlo Forest Park with riders turning onto Uriarra Road and going out through Uriarra Crossing and on towards Uriarra Homestead before returning to SFP. Men’s A, B and C and Women’s A grade will do two laps (74kms) while Men’s D and E and Women’s B and C will do one lap (37kms).
Course Map can be found here.
Stage 2: the ITT (first rider off at 12noon and at 30 sec intervals).
The ITT will start at SFP and proceed towards Uriarra Crossing and turn just before the descent into the three sisters, with the finish back at Stromlo Forest Park. First riders will be set off at 12 noon in the following order: ME/WC, MD/WB, MA, MB, MC/WA.
The ITT distance is 18kms per lap and all riders will do one lap.
Course Map can be found here.
While the mini tour should help familiarise riders with possible conditions for the upcoming CT10, the event is also suitable for riders who want to try competitive cycling, as a full range of grades is expected to be offered. The people at the sign-on will be able to help you with selecting a correct grade.
Juniors:
There will be racing for juniors, which is expected to start just after 9am. The course will either be Stromlo Forest Park to a turn around on Uriarra Road (before the 3 sisters) with a total distance of about 12kms or will be a crit utilising SFP. The course will depend on junior riders that are racing on the day and if someone (a parent?) is able to manage the turn around.
Details:
• First race will commence at 9am on Saturday, 20 March 2010.
• Registration will open at 8.00am. Remember to bring your Times-7 tags or if you don’t have one then arrive early to register.
• Entry is the same as last year: $10 for the two races and $2 for juniors.
• For safety, riders must have a current (2010) Cycling Australia licence. Day and general licences can be bought at the time of registration. Please arrive early to allow time for processing.
There will be coffee and that sort of stuff along with cold drinks as usual
The event marshals are: Carl Fellows, Karen Foat, Ben Foulis, Michael Hanslip, Peggy Douglas, Luke Jeffries.
The Race Director is Malcolm Cook who can be contacted at malcolm.cook@deewr.gov.au or ph 0427 594 131 for further information.
Details of the ccc road series points score can be found on the club website. The prizes will be sourced from Velo Republic in Kingston and the Bike Shed in Braddon, Gungahlin and Phillip. The confirmed prize pool is $3000.
