Vikings Race 14/2 SFP

The race heads out from SFP to the turnaround at Condor Creek. Racing starts at 8am, please arrive closer to 7:30am for race rego.

The race is followed by the AGM then a free spit roast lunch.

We will need a few helpers to set up the spit roast - which is being picked up ready to serve.

I'm also short a marshal - if you are coming for the AGM/free lunch, but not riding, please consider marshalling - e.g. signs can be dropped off at Uriarra crossing and 2 marshals can ride out and marshal there - then follow the final bunch back to SFP.

Regards,
Simon Claringbold
Race Director 14/2

Simon, I'll stand in for your missing marshal. I'm recovering from 2 weeks of illness anywho, so I'd either have to beg to be dropped a grade or come home last anyhow. I can bring the car so can spend a couple of hours out at Condor Ck if you so wish.

Or you could drop me out there Bean and pick me up after the race, if you want to go race for last

Hey Lyn, how's the arm healing? Going well thanks V - started using it a bit this week, X-ray again next Friday, hope to try driving soon. Discovered the extent of unfitness on the windtrainer yesterday.:)

OK, Lyn and Bean and do the Condor Ck turnaround. I'll need you to take the signs out, set up, turn the grades, then pack up the signs and play sag wagon for the trip back to SFP. Then enjoy your free lunch!

better take flippers, snorkel, wetsuit and possibly some sort of flotation device.

Worst case senario - I'll lend you my Landcruiser - and don't park it to close to the creek!

We'll start at the SFP pavilion - neutral roll out until after the left turn onto Uriarra Rd. Turn at Condor Ck and finish on Uriarra Rd. Riders carefully roll in to SPF pavilion for end of race refreshments and results announcement.

We will make a call just prior to rego opening on whether it is safe to hold the race. If there is obvious unsafe conditions such as lightning, strong winds, heavy rain, etc, the race will be canceled before we open rego. If conditions worsen after rego we will reassess the safety of the race and may cancel before the start.

In any case, the VCC AGM and spit roast will be held in the shelter of the SPF pavilion, or possibly in the downstairs garage area if the conditions are really bad.

The rain seems to be getting lighter and by the look of the radar pictures it might even be finished by race time on 14/2. My recommendations for anyone racing:
1) where possible, arrange transport to/from SFP - and bring a change of clothes for the after race AGM/lunch. If you have to ride to the race, bring a bag with a change of clothes (bags can be safely stored in the RD's vehicle or race HQ);
2) due to the wet weather, don't use carbon wheels due to their lack of wet weather braking;
3) a base layer vest and/or rainvest would be worthwhile race apparel;
4) take it easy on the decents - this race will not be won on the decents - likely points to split the bunch will be on the climb before Condor Ck (out and back) and the 3 sisters;
5) reduce your race type pressure by 10% or 10psi, whichever is the greater - this will give you more grip in the (probably) wet conditions;
6) remember there are showers and change rooms at SFP;
7) Riding in the rain can still be a rewarding experience, you can still give it everything on the uphills and flats, be extra careful on the decents and the turning point - try to keep all your lines and changes in speed extra smooth.

7) Riding in the rain can still be a rewarding experience,

Because fewer participants means a greater chance of victory! Best chance to place in A grade!

Is there a kickoff time for the meeting or just when the race is done?

Loooove the rain! Well done to Sam, Ettiene (and Matty by car) and one very wet CCC rider for making a show. It's persisting out there but there's plenty of undercover space for AGM attendees. Bring a brolly and a pair of boots. See you there at 10:30.

Bring your appetites. We still have the spit roast, salads and desserts to eat.
