Dairy Flat Points Race - this SUNDAY 24th Jan

With the punch out of each corner on the hotdog circuit, this is a good race to work on your brutal sprint acceleration. Sort of like a bunch of big gear starts - but fun! There will be a sprint every second laps for points, with bonus points on offer for the final sprint to the finish. The rider with the most points at the end wins.

For those who have not ridden there, Dairy Flat Rd is a closed section of road, almost 1km long, near the end of the Monaro where it junctions with Morshead Dr. The easiest way to find it is on from the bikely map of the course: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Dairy-Flat-circuit. If you are driving park at the south west end, where there's a car park just before the gate that closes the road. That's the end where the start finish will be.

Start times:

- 7:30am Sign on opens
- 8am - Juniors, ME/WC (40 min + 1)
- 8:55am - Bunch one: MC/WA (50 min + 1) & Bunch 2: MD/WB (50 min + 1) [can combine]
- 9:50am - Bunch 1: MA (60 min + 1) & Bunch 2: MB (60 min + 1) [can combine]

The Race Director is Damien Clarke: damien.clarke@gmail.com.

For those of you who haven't been there, Dairy Road is a really pleasant place to hang out - there are plenty of shade trees at the midpoint, and it's right next to the main bike path between the Kingston/train station area and Molonglo Reach. A good occasion to get family and friends out on the bike to spectate!

Vikings fellows, we're a bit tight with marshals I believe, so if a few club members could hang around to help with the race after (or even arrive a bit early) you would be greatly contributing to the good of the world.

I won't be racing (still recovering from cross-training in Japan!), so happy to help out with marshalling etc. When are helpers needed??

That would be great if you could, Matthew. From 7:30.

I'm free to marshal if people are still needed.

Matthew and I should be enough but Sam it'd be great to have a third to swap the turn-point marshalling with, if you are keen.

Matthew I reckon it'd be good if we both got out there at 7.15 to get set up for registration. No worries if not though.

No worries Steven - I'll rock up about 7.15-7.30 and if I'm not needed it should be a good one to watch anyway.

Sam, maybe you could come a bit later on in the morning to relieve the guys from sitting around in the heat.

Great thing about dairy flat is no turn point marshals required. Only need someone at rego and 1 or 2 to keep tabs on the laps and sprints :)

Thanks to everyone that marshalled and helped with this race, and also to the riders that raced. Thanks also for people's concern after Alan and I crashed, I just went for a bit of a lie down in the soft grass but Alan came out of it worse with bloodied knees after kissing the road. Fortunately both our bikes seem to be ok.

Glad no serious damage done. Was a nice hard hit out but whats with the blue backside in my face all race (well the 1/2 I did anyway). Seriously, its not like it was for sheep stations or anything, no need to physically barge people off wheels just rolling around.

I quite enjoyed my foray back in C. I think I might sit there in C for now and just do some races for fun, and hope I can keep up with no training! It was NOT easy out there!

Al looked OK at the coffee shop afterwards, though his blood stained socks gave it away a bit. I hope that right knee heals well.

Great work by Hoops and Dale Percival in A/B grade, too!

Yeah Hoops! I WAS impressed! That was a super-impressive ride. And both Sue and Frances eating up the break-aways in C. Nice work. At one stage there I was gasping and Sue pulled past practically whistling and looking far too comfortable. I was in pain! Frances was there with the orders to reel 'em in whenever required. Great stuff. I had fun in retrospect. :)

Yeah, good race Hoops. You were loking very strong on the front. Unfortunately I couldn't make the start (even though it is only about 500m from my house) as I was still up to my elbows in shifter parts. When they say a Shimano shifter mechanism shouldn't be taken apart they are bang on the money! But I did manage to save it with only an hour wasted looking for tiny shifter springs on the garage floor...

Even Zinn says that! Why did you need to take it apart??

Plenty of credit should go out to Dale who did more than a fair share out the front. Machine!

After getting dropped on the 2nd lap I thought it was going to be a long day out!

Awesome effort Hoops. And Dale is a machine! It was a fun race, despite the shouting. Thanks everyone.

Cheers

A/B grade was very theatrical at times!

After getting dropped on the 2nd lap I thought it was going to be a long day out!

I had the same thing happening in C. I was doing my trademark reverse breakaway and thought seriously about parking the bike and spectating the rest of the race but luckily the bunch eased up and I was able to get back on and have a bit of a rest and then even managed to do a bit of work on the front, both solo and as part of a break with Alan. Watching the TDU is very motivating!

Thanks to all the marshals, was a good fun race, it's so hard to get way in C grade those guys wanna chase everything down.
